Celebrating Sustainable Practices Every Day with Our Annual Denim and Belt Drive

 

At DesignX, we believe that every day is an opportunity to celebrate and care for our beautiful planet, not just on Earth Day. With the growing awareness of environmental sustainability, it's essential to recognize the significant impact our daily choices have on Mother Earth. A prime example is the fashion industry, particularly denim production, which is remarkably resource-intensive. Producing just one pair of jeans can consume up to 3000 liters of water, approximately 1.5 kilowatts of energy, and 5 ounces of chemicals.

To combat this environmental toll, we champion the practice of upcycling. By transforming old or unused denim into unique, new creations, we not only minimize waste but also offer a space for creative expression and a fun opportunity to care for our planet. This practice doesn't just divert textiles from landfills and countries that do not have the recycling infrastructure—it also results in one-of-a-kind items that students can proudly use or share.

Join Our Ongoing Efforts to Make a Difference

We invite you to participate in DesignX's "Annual Denim Drive," which runs May 1st-30th 2024. This initiative is an excellent opportunity for you to contribute to our upcycling projects and help extend the life of denim fabrics. You can drop off your used or new denim—including those that are ripped, stained, or missing buckles—at one of our designated "Drop-Spots" throughout town:

  • Los Altos Downtown Area:

    • Los Altos Chamber of Commerce, 321 University Avenue, Los Altos, CA 94022 (drop spot located in front lobby of Chamber)

  • Los Altos Country Club Area:

    • 1596 Shirley Ave, Los Altos, CA 94024 (drop spot located at the top of the driveway)

  • Los Altos, Hill View Community Area:

    • 140 S Avalon Drive, Los Altos, CA 94022 (drop spot located on the front porch)

*Please ensure that your donations are washed and neatly folded before dropping them off. All types of denim and leather or braided belts are welcome, even if they show signs of wear.
