Creative Assistant In Training
Summer 2026
Overview
Who The CAT Opportunity Is For
Select DesignX alumni entering 9th or 10th grade (Fall 2026) who’ve demonstrated maturity, reliability, creativity and attention to detail. Students who have enjoyed many DesignX programs through their elementary and middle school years and would like to continue to build their skills through teaching and mentoring.
What It Is
A structured “first work opportunity” that shifts students from participant to classroom enabler. CATs shadow a Senior Creative Assistant who along with a Junior Creative Assistant support a Creative Lead Fellow in running a DesignX Studio. They learn real classroom operations—setup, safety, materials, demos, student guidance, and team communication.
Training
Three preparatory training sessions, one virtual, two in-person, held in late spring/early summer. Completion is required for classroom placement.
Placement & Commitment
Selected CATs are placed on a class team for a minimum commitment of 2 weeks (subject to space availability) during Summer 2026.
Pathway
Upon successful completion, and demonstrated growth, CATs may return as volunteers for additional weeks (subject to space availability). When students turn 16y (rising juniors), they carry priority for paid position as a Junior Creative Assistant within the Fellowship ecosystem.
Cost
Training fee $150 (nominal fee to cover training). Families are invoiced upon placement.
Application
Please include your resume and portfolio (if you have one).
