HAPPY EARTH DAY + DENIM AND BELT DRIVe

In our opinion EVERY DAY should be EARTH DAY, but we are DELIGHTED and THANKFUL that we have ONE day dedicated to celebrating our BEAUTIFUL home MOTHER EARTH!

EARTH DAY is also a time to pause and acknowledge the outsized impact humans have on the planet. One of the most visible impacts of human activity is the amount of waste created each year. Much of this waste is made up of clothing — and denim is one of the most resource-draining clothing material of them all. Did you know a single pair of denim jeans requires an average of 3000 liters of water, approximately 1.5 kilowatts of energy, and 5 ounces of chemicals to produce. Each year, approximately 450 million units of denim are sold in the United States alone. Fortunately, there are many things we could be do to reduce the environmental impact of denim: upcycling -- taking old denim garments and transforming them into something new and unique is one we love.

Not only does this help reduce the amount of waste that is sent to landfills, but it also creates a one-of-a-kind product that can’t be found elsewhere. On this Earth Day, we invite you to join DesignX for our annual denim drive. From now through end of Jun 15, gather up your worn or unworn denim and bring to the locations below and watch DesignX students ages 7y-15y creatively repurpose and care for our planet in style.

We at DesignX think increasing the longevity of this iconic fabric is a stylish way to show some love for our beautiful HOME, planet Earth.

sharing the joy of the holiday season WITH HOLIDAY HEROES BENEFITTING THE WENDER WEIS FOUNDATION FOR CHILDREN

On Tuesday December 6th 2022, DesignX spent the evening supporting undeserved and underrepresented kids and families of the San Francisco Bay Area at Holiday Heroes 2022 benefiting the Wender Weis Foundation for Children, at Oracle Park in San Francisco.

The energy and enthusiasm of the kids, teens and families at the event was palpable.

The DesignX team hosted a station of fashion fun with plenty of brightly colored fabrics and accessories. Kids and teens were encouraged to let their creative juices flow and design their own clothing creations. It was amazing to watch their imaginations take flight, and the end results were nothing short of incredible. From sparkly dresses to snazzy swim suits, the kids and teens showed off their fashion design skills.

There was lots of laughter and joy as families took part in the festivities, and DesignX was proud to be a part of it.

Holiday Heroes isn’t just a fun day for families, it is also a way to bring Holiday magic to underserved children who wouldn’t otherwise have the opportunity to enjoy the holiday season.

DesignX was proud to be a part of this annual evening and to be able to provide these kids and teens with an experience that they will never forget. The DesignX fashion experience was a huge hit and was a great way to kick off the Holiday Season!

DENIM AND BELT DRIVe

We all love denim and own our fair-share of denim pants, jackets, skirts, and even shirts! Have you ever wondered how many resources go into making one denim item? Did you know a single pair of denim jeans requires an average of 3000 liters of water, approximately 1.5 kilowatts of energy, and 5 ounces of chemicals to produce. Each year, approximately 450 million units of denim are sold in the United States alone. Since denims are a heavyweight fabric they do not biodegrade easily so why not up-cycle this resource intensive, yet vesatile fabric into something useful?

We at DesignX think increasing the longevity of this iconic fabric is a stylish way to show some love for our beautiful HOME, planet Earth.

“DENIM AND BELT DRIVE”

Do your part while reducing waste. Help students at DesignX learn to creatively repurpose denim and belts into one of a kind fashion and accessories, LOOPING a much loved iconic and resource-intense clothing back into the system.

ENABLING AND EMPOWERING UNDERPRIVILEGED youth

Jan 2021

As we sit with the events of 2020, we humbly recognize the progress we have made and the progress we have yet to make as a society. These are extraordinary times distinguished by extraordinary displays of passion and resolve. It reminds us of the possibility of something better—for our children and their future. We believe in the power of action, and to that end are taking an important step this summer:

Inspired by Virgil Abloh, who having studied Architecture in college went on to create the highly successful fashion label Off-White and becoming the first Black Artistic Director of a top French heritage label - Louis Vuitton, we are offering four FREE spots (one per week) in our design summer programs to underprivileged deserving youth of Black origins. We hope this is the beginning of our journey to creating a more inclusive world. If you know of any organizations working particularly with disadvantaged African American communities that could use the scholarship please reach out to us.

As part of the community that values creativity and design we invite you to join us in this effort. DesignX will match a dollar for every dollar received in donations for the scholarship fund.
